Unsolicited emails seeking payment for .com names
Education Services Australia is aware that emails are being sent to some edu.au domain name holders seeking payment to register their name in the .com name space. We strongly advise registrants that receive these emails to disregard them:
- The content of the emails mirrors practices cited in consumer alerts issued by the .au governing body auDA as seeking to mislead registrants
- What is being offered are often sub-domains that will not be recorded in the official .com registry meaning you will have no rights to the name
Registrants that may have responded to the email or made payment are advised to contact the consumer protection agency
in their state or territory.
If you have any queries or concerns about emails or letters received in relation to your edu.au domain name registration or domain name registration in general, please don't hesitate to contact our support team via email@example.com
or on 1300 885 092.
These emails will typically make offers or present a premise similar to this example published on the auDA website.
