This table sets out the types of entities which will be considered as registrants in the .edu.au domain space, together with the criteria which assist the Registrar in determining whether they are recognised Australian education and training entities.

Institutions must be established under an Act of State, Federal, NT and ACT Parliaments, or approved to provide higher education by a relevant State, Federal, NT or ACT Government Accreditation Agency. These institutions and the relevant Accreditation Agencies in each State are listed at http://www.aqf.edu.au/accred.htm. The Registrar is bound to provide notice of applications from universities (3LD) to the Australian Vice-Chancellors Committee (AVCC). |

Warranty by the applicant that it is currently in receipt of funding under a program conducted by a Commonwealth or State education, training or research authority, or by a private organisation whose primary business is the conduct and/or support of education research. The Registrar may ask an applicant to supply references from up to three current licence-holders in the .edu.au domain space, confirming that provision of an edu.au domain name to the applicant would be consistent with the objectives of the edu.au domain name allocation policy. |

| National bodies |
Warranty by the applicant that its primary function is provision of education, training, research and/or related services in Australia, and provision of accreditation by the relevant authority. Bodies providing education and training services to overseas students in Australia must be registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). |

| Child Care Centres |
The Commonwealth Department of Family and Community Services has responsibility for national child care policy, research and data collection through the Child Care Programme. All Commonwealth-funded child care services must comply with relevant State/Territory Government licensing regulations. Long day care centres must participate in the Commonwealth’s Quality Improvement and Accreditation System administered by the National Childcare Accreditation Council. The Registrar may ask an applicant to supply references from up to three current licence-holders in the .edu.au domain space, confirming that provision of an edu.au domain name to the applicant would be consistent with the objectives of the edu.au domain name allocation policy. |
